My review of Goreme is a touristy town where everything is just inflated from the tasteless food to the price gouging and tricky for flying the hot air balloon rides. Our hotel even admitted that companies will cancel a confirmed reservation for a balloon ride so they can find a better reservation for a higher price, even if the weather is good to go. It is a lovely small town next to Goreme (famous for the hot air balloon rides and pointed rock structures) so its a short ride away with none of the hustle and bustle of a touristy town. It has many local restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance, to eat at without breaking the bank. There is a promenade with on the river with jungle gyms and play areas for little kids. Ortahisar is a beautiful little town. It’s quite quiet but a short taxi ride into slightly busier Goreme. I’m glad we stayed in Ortahisar though as it was much more relaxing and quaint. Hisarönü Restaurant was our favourite place to eat - fantastic food, lovely Cappadocian wine and shisha. We even got given a free slice of cake as it was the owners birthday. We liked staying away from the main tourist centre at Goreme. Nevsehir (Nar) is convenient and you have more local amenities such as supermarkets, local restaurants etc. It’s not as picturesque as Goreme/ Uchisar, more functional, but the little village of Nar is pleasant.
