Beautiful and peaceful location, great value Jay and his team were so helpful, he booked an amazing day tour to Lan Ha bay and a Plankton tour for us. That was fantastic !! Room was so clean and bright with huge windows and balcony ( and the AC worked as pretty well) I highly recommend this place and ask for Jay if you would like to book a tour. You won't regret it

We stayed at Cat Ba Wistaria for a few nights and honestly loved the whole vibe. It’s got all the modern stuff you’d hope for — a sleek room, solid Wi-Fi, rooftop jacuzzi, and even a small gym that actually works — but still feels really connected to the local side of Cat Ba. As a couple from Saigon, we’re a bit picky about comfort, but this place totally delivered. Super clean, comfy bed, and friendly staff who gave us real local tips instead of touristy ones. They pointed us to this tiny family-run spot down an alley for the best Canh Ca Thu we’ve ever had — absolute gem. The location couldn’t be better: walkable to the beach, night food street, and all the little shops. There’s not much dining inside the hotel, but with everything nearby, it’s not a big deal. Feels modern but still has that Cat Ba charm.

Cat Ba Dream Hotel overlooks the waterfront esplanade and the bay of Cat Ba, it is quite majestic. The room is large enough with a big window to capture that majestic view. Bed is large and comfortable for a good deep sleep. I had originally booked a "high floor" but that did not guarantee us a view, so I had to upgrade to get the view, well worth the few extra $s. Booked a cruise and a cheap motor bike and the forward bus journey to Ninh Binh. All good experiences at Cat Ba Dream Hotel.

This has become our regular hotel for visits to Cat Ba. From the friendly staff to the fabulous facilities, it scores a 10 every visit. The pools, onsen, and gym are great additions. The breakfasts are varied and always tasty. The restaurant has a mix of Asian and Western food.

Rooms were excellent and staff was friendly. Very comfortable beds and the hotel arranges transport for you to your cruise. The hotel is in a beautiful street in a calm and family orientated area. The restaurant was lovely with both vietnamese and western dishes on the menu.

The karsts are beautiful, and can easily be viewed from shore without the need to do a boat tour. The tourism is a "wild-west" scenario, with the natural environment taking a pounding. There's trash in the water, hordes of people crammed onto literally hundreds of boats and ships, diesel permeates the air... It's a tourist trap money grab done poorly! I hear Cat Ba Island is more scenic, natural, and unspoiled. Maybe that's a better option. We WOULD NOT return to Ha Long Bay,

Just spent a few days in Cat Ba and honestly, it was super chill. The island feels way less crowded than Ha Long Bay but still has those gorgeous limestone cliffs and blue water vibes. I loved taking the boat tour around Lan Ha Bay — quieter, cleaner, and really peaceful. Seafood here is fresh and cheap, especially the grilled squid. The town itself is a bit touristy, but if you rent a scooter and explore the national park, it gets amazing real quick. Definitely worth visiting if you want nature without too much hype.

It was off peak so not everywhere was open. Some of the streets were deserted. However the boat trip was really good, busy but not as busy as in peak season when it must be too busy! The boats all go to the same places so the sea is just filled with boats which slightly detracts from the experience . We did enjoy our boat trip and our boat was lovely and had loads of space and not too many people! Maybe around 20 of us but spread over 3 decks, so loads of space!

Cat Ba Island was a fantastic getaway.

Cat Ba Island was a fantastic getaway. The scenery is stunning, with towering limestone cliffs and calm, clear waters — Lan Ha Bay in particular felt peaceful and less crowded than Ha Long. We spent our days exploring the national park and renting scooters to see hidden beaches and viewpoints, which was a lot of fun. The town itself is relaxed, with plenty of good little cafés and seafood restaurants to refuel after a day of adventure. People were friendly and welcoming, and it felt easy to get around. Overall, Cat Ba is perfect for nature lovers who want a mix of activity and chill time — definitely worth a visit.

I like to stay in Ha Long Essence Hotell with comfy beds and pillows. Sleep very well there for one night. With the price I paid I would say the hotel provide high standard of hygiene and nice deco. I don mind booking the hotel again when i am back on Ha Long.

Enjoyed Cat Ba, but don’t go on others reviews for accomodation, check out places fully, we changed places twice and would have changed again but decided to stick it out, do not accept a bad room, ask for one which you believe you have paid for and as it was described when you booked it. Don’t book for a weekend or public holiday, the Vietnamese flood the town. We found best value places to eat and drink, cheapest and great food Oasis restaurant, The big man for good western food.
