Amazing hostess, extremely friendly and helpful. Helped us organise tours, facilitated an early checkout (even making sure breakfast was made fresh at 6:30am), and helped us organise a transfer to our next destination when our driver failed to show up. Breakfast was made to order and was very tasty. The location and the exterior of the building are beautiful, and it's not too far from the main attractions. Our cabin had everything we needed, except a fridge to keep drinks cold. Otherwise I was quite happy with the facilities. We didn't use them, but bikes are available for free as well, which would have been very convenient if we'd had more time.

The property is beautiful, clean, tidy, quiet and perfectly located in Tam Coc. We had such a wonderful time that we ended up extending. The breakfast was super tasty, best omelette I’ve had all trip and we travelled to a few 5star resorts along the way that didn’t know how to provide a 5 star breakfast! Highly recommend Tam Coc Bungalow on the river.

The property is surrounded by greenery, it is a peaceful oasis in the country side. The staff were so nice and helpful. I loved the duplex room, the beds were comfy. The tour organizer was so caring, she organized a night tour at the bai Dinh pagoda which was just breathtaking at night.

The only homestay I saw in Ninh Binh that was really nestled in the mountains- it was far enough from the main town to be so beautiful but also easy to get to places to eat by bike, scooter or taxi. The food there is great and the staff are so lovely. I would definitely stay again.

Ninh Binh – Vietnam’s Hidden Gem

Ninh Binh – Vietnam’s Hidden Gem Ninh Binh absolutely blew me away. It feels like a quieter, more peaceful version of Ha Long Bay but on land — stunning limestone mountains, rice fields, and winding rivers everywhere. I took a boat ride in Tam Coc, and it was incredibly scenic and calm, passing through caves and local villages. The people were welcoming, and the food was delicious and cheap. It’s the perfect spot to relax, explore nature, and escape the city rush. Easily one of my favorite places in Vietnam!

As far as I can make out, this town is a suburb/area of Ninh Binh, less than a mile from the train station. It is probably the friendliest place I've ever been - I think I was "helloed" by just about everyone under 10 I saw. But the highlights are really in the surrounding countryside, so I would recommend planning for a few days out to see the nature reserves and participate in the activities. You don't need to travel far, and can get Grab taxis or bikes if you don't have your own transport.

I had a wonderful experience at Lighthouse Hotel in Ninh Binh. The hotel is located in a convenient location, near markets and attractions, making transportation easy. Rooms are clean, comfortable and fully equipped with amenities. In particular, the receptionist is very friendly and enthusiastic, always ready to assist customers. The hotel also provides a private cooking area and dining table for guests, creating a feeling of home. The yard is spacious and airy, providing a relaxing space after days of exploration. I will definitely return to Lighthouse Hotel on my next trips to Ninh Binh.

We spent two days in Ninh Binh and could have easily spent a...

We spent two days in Ninh Binh and could have easily spent a day or two longer. It's a very laid back area and there is lots to see. We stayed between Trang An and Tam Coc and used bicycles to get around. The quieter location suited us but for younger travellers Tam Coc is more vibrant. The walk to the top of Hang Mua viewpoint is best done in the early morning (we went before breakfast) so it isn't too crowded and not too hot. There were mountain goats roaming around when we walked up (around 7.00am) but they'd gone by the time we descended and more people were arriving. We didn't take the boat ride in Tam Coc but we took a boat ride in Trang An. The scenery seems more mountainous around Trang An than Tam Coc. On the day we went the water was high so we couldn't go into the caves and there was only one route open, which seemed to be a mix of the other routes. The boat trip lasted around 2.5 hours and was excellent. We also visited the old town at night, which was nice. It's all lit up and there are some good places to eat on the waterfront. Bich Dong temple is also worth visiting. There is a staircase leading up to a smaller shrine and to the left of that there is a passage through a bat cave and up to another small shrine outdoors.
