We had an excellent stay at Mooiplass Guesthouse! Superman John, Marshall and all the staff made us feel right at home. They went the extra mile to make sure our stay was great. We also took the informative ostrich farm tour with Ben at he guesthouse. Ben is very knowledgeable in everything ostrich! He also doubles as the braai master! The dinner was delicious in a beautiful spot, outside overlooking the pool and the expanse of the Karoo. Recommend having dinner at the guesthouse! The rooms very well appointed and very comfortable. Breakfast was very generous with plenty of options. The guesthouse is in a great location near the main ostrich farms outside Oudtshoorn.

An family-run old traditional house, apparently which was an old library and tobacco store, converted into a 'farm house'. Wooden floors and super high ceilings. The garden was beautiful full of flowers. A swimming pool for the kids to swim. And the Wilgewandel public farm was truly amazing! The kids had the best time on the lake and the water slides were an amazing! And a peacock walking around the restaurant! Amazing. And the staff were so helpful and friendly. Very thankful for the wonderful service!

We were looking for a quiet place to stay, away from the hustle and bustle of the coastal resorts. And we found it!
The location is magnificent, and the tents are actually situated in the trees of a splendid forest. Although not too high up (which might reassure some guests), the site benefits from being on the edge of a ravine, so we were really staying on a balcony in the forest.

The accommodation was clean, neat and well appointed.
The breakfast spread was excellent with a big variety to choose from.
The restaurant was the cherry on top. It has a lovely atmosphere, and the food was top notch. The ostrich burgers were huge!
The location is excellent, not too far from Oudtshoorn and close enough to numerous attractions.

Huge spotless and comfortable duplex villa (for an incredible moderate rate). Tugged away in a green and enjoyable 'compound'. Nice pool (area). The biggest perk was the great friendly kind hospitable and charming lady that checked us in, provided us with information, arranged our laundry and looked after us during breakfast. All staff was pleasant.

Loved our stay, wish we'd booked another night. The food was outstanding. Our guide was wonderful we just loved everything. Note this is a conservation lodge there is not a plethora of animals but the time with animals was wonderful.

Oudtshoorn is a beautiful town, so much to offer day and night. many attractions in and around town which are definite must do items. Mostly the people of Oudtshoorn are humble and friendly. Amenities are super easy to find and always close by. Love this town. Le Dolce Vita very cozy, Karoopot, Karoo Markt, all are great places. Pricing well within budget

Unfortunately, we were there on a Monday and most restaurants close at 17:00 on a Monday. However, our host recommended we have dinner at the Karoo Art Hotel with a choice of fine dining or pub dinner. We choose pub dinner, which was delicious. Beautiful trail walks can be found around the farms. All-in-all a wonderful trip.

The only negative is the number of young coloured men asking to do and be useful when theyo are not required to do anything. One feels badgered.

We should have called the farm manager from Barrydale,...
We should have called the farm manager from Barrydale, because when we arrived at the locked farm gate, we found there was no reception. We couldn't reach him, and it was soon getting dark, so we had to keep driving until we got signal again, which only took five minutes. Wann, the manager, was soon there and opened the gate to paradise for us... remote, behind two other farms, we were able to spend comfortable days in this Karoo resort. Wann was always available, and one evening his wife cooked us a delicious meal. A river, a hot tub, an ice bath, peace and quiet, and an endless sky—what more could you want? This is the place to be for anyone needing a break. For more romance, under the stars, bring candles and reading lamps.

The area surrounding De Rust is beautiful, especially the mountain passes, which have stunning scenery and lots of hiking opportunities. There are very few shops or restaurants in De Rust, but Oudtshoorn is just a easy 30km drive away and this has plenty of shops, restaurants and activities. Staying on a farm between the Meiringspoort pass and De Rust was perfect though. Just buy plenty of groceries before you get there!

Uniondale was the centre point of our journey distance wise - so convenient . Also we had not been there before so it made an interesting stop over. Scenery was stunning and the road excellent. Hotel built in 1832 (I understand). Uniondale is about 14 kms off main road and entry and exit are through two mountain passes which were most attractive.

From the main road it looks like just another dusty deserted Karoo town. What a pleasant surprise on turning off into the little town. We had a superb breakfast at @Stuff and met some interesting locals. The town is experiencing a resurgence and is intersting, well maintained and spotlessly clean.

It was so relaxing. Great pool. Room had everything you needed Lovely staff and it was also lovely to relax at night and have dinner at the hotel. Food was to our liking. Enjoyed our stay so much we extended it an extra night.

Had a fantastic toasted sandwich at the restaurant before the tour and a cold beer after the tour and so pleasant to sit outside and enjoy the nature.

Lovely quiet country village. Interesting little shops & great 2nd hand bookshop. Great walks/hikes & excellent restaurants (highly recommend "Mud"). Lots of interesting history.
