The reception by the monks was delightful, and you could tell they were happy to have us. My wife and I had a wonderful dinner - the best vegan food I've had. We also got to take part in the monks morning ceremony, including burning wood chips in an incense bowl, chanting the heart mantra with the monks and being told the story of the temple. This was available in both japanese and english. We were also allowed to walk around (and take pictures) of their sacred hall, which was incredibly beautiful and rich in history and culture. A true delight!

It was my most extraordinery accomocation in Japan. We spent here 2 nights in the 2 room family suite with own bathroom. We used the small onsen on the groundfoor as well. (The tattoos was not problem there.) The vegan breakfasts and dinners were very delicious (even my son said, that it was great. 😀) The staff can speak quite good in english. The morning ceremony is a must, you can feel the peace in your heart. We took a walk in the sourrounding temples, cementary and in the mountains. This place is like an other world. I wish if all the world would be the same. Thank you for all!

Enjoyed the dinner and picturesque property provided by Nanten-en. It’s an old but well preserved ryokan nested in beautiful nature. Very thoughtful to have a humidifier that most properties don’t have!

Stayed in the Luxury Suite with garden view as part of a joint honeymoon/birthday treat and wow, what an experience! The suite was absolutely stunning, the food was beautifully presented and getting to experience the meditation and fire ritual made this a unique stay, and one we will both treasure for years to come.

So beautiful and serene. Lovely one-night stay. Cute rooms (Japanese / Monk style); quiet place with a reasonable number of guests. Peaceful setting, well maintain. Enjoyed the hot baths. Vegetarian meals (very enjoyable). The Monk spoke a really good English. The morning religious service was a really good experience This was by far my favourite area of my trip around Japan. The area is so calm and relaxed and the temples beatiful.

A unique experience staying in a Buddhist Temple. It was incredibly comfortable and warm. The food was extraordinary and the atmosphere was beautifully quiet and relaxing. The garden is a lovely spot to enjoy the quietness of Koyasan. This is not a hotel but traditional lodgings. The meals are served at either 5.30 or 6pm and breakfast is at 7.30 am after morning prayers. The food is vegan (which is good by me) and unlike anything I have eaten before, it was delicious!

The monks are so sweet and kind. We really enjoyed our stay. The temple is lovely and a good place to relax. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. Attending the morning prayer was an amazing experience. Location is perfect and mostly can be done by walking. They offer a night tour at Okunoin, which was really nice and interesting.
