Every moment in the hostel felt unique exploring the authentic and historic ryokan building with extensive areas of tatami flooring, shoji walls and doors and of course the onsen.

Certain units feature a seating area to relax in after a busy day. Some units have views of the sea or mountain. A flat-screen TV is available. The two hosts are friendly and helpful. They gave us excellent dining suggestions and driving tips. The male host is very patient and nice, always talking to us in a cheerful manner. He was also generous to offer us all basic items.

It embodies Japanese refinement with special attention to the smallest details. The room was beautiful , comfortable and having our own private onsen was a big plus. The staff was outstanding bending over backwards to please. The kaiseki was grand , the food was delicious. The gracious lady who served all our meals went to great length to explain every single ingredient and course.

Guests can savour Japanese breakfast and dinner in their rooms for some of the room types. The charming ryokan offers free WiFi and on-site parking. Staff was extremely helpful and accommodating, location and rooms were great quality.

Lovely staff which took very good care of us, amazing onsen, superb ryokan breakfast

The property also provides free pick-up service from JR Takayama Station. Free shuttle bus service is available when check-in, check-out, after dinner. Tai-san and family were very hospitable, friendly, courteous, and generally excellent hosts. I'd recommend SOY, and would stay here when I come back.
