Really enjoyed staying at Ushiogumo: The facilities are brand-new and impeccable, amazing staff (!!), beautiful location that's close to scenic landscapes. The Kaiseki Ryori dinner was excellent, breakfast was great too! Each room has a private bath on the balcony. There's lots of amenities in the room. Plus, the hotel onsen is made available for private use from 6pm. It's a small property (I counted 7 rooms) and thus feels very cozy. The road in front of the hotel did not really bother us. The terrace windows are well-isolated to block out any noise and there's also the calming sound from the balcony onsen. Extra points for the super-friendly staff!!! ...who can also converse in English so it's no problem for foreign tourists.

A quiet paradise in a small town. There’s not much around (in terms of restaurants or stores) but that’s the point. It’s calm and peaceful. All amenities provided (from yukata and towels to cotton swabs and green tea). Two great little private onsens on site. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Amazing breakfast with a view on surrounding mountains and the sea. Hope to come back here again.

We have never experienced this kind of luxury in our lives….. this place and environment totally blew our minds! We had te luxury to stay in the villa, and exceeded all our expectations. The views, the pool, the sauna, the hotspring tub, the fireplace, the BBQ… it was more than enough to really end our holiday totally relaxed! We were supposed to go to Tokyo the last 3 days of our holiday, but we where glad that we canceled that, and went to Shikuoka instead! The falls and wasabi fields and hikes nearby were great excursions, and then come back to the villa was a real dream! Also there were no other guests, so we had the whole place for ourselves…. The service was excellent, room was very clean. Ocean view from the room was extremely amazing. Dinner and breakfast service in the room was extremely good and big in portion. There's always at least 1 staff member in the hotel who is fluent in English. The public and private onsens were extremely clean and good. There are 2 public onsen separately by gender, and that swap at 4am each day. Hence one night stay is enough to experience both onsen. Overall, this is extremely value for money despite the high cost.
