Highly recommend staying in a traditional ryokan for the experience when in Japan. Design enthusiasts will love the aesthetics of this place, and the owner greets you and checks you in (he's a New York City fashion school graduate!). The communal toilets and baths (you have to book bath timings for your room) were not as inconvenient as expected, and it was an interesting experience. If travel is all about new experiences, Ryokan Plum is a great choice!
