Excellent first class personal. The service in Japan's hospitality has been always top notch for me but sui suwako topped this by a mile. We had an elder woman, I regret not asking for her name, she served us so tremendously during our stay. Her English also was better than most of the young people from tokyo. We had a big room in the fifth floor. Beautiful interior, the Star was obviously the private onsen. On the sixth floor you can find the public mixed onsen which we didn't used. Not a fan of wearing clothes in the onsen, but definitely understandable for a mixed onsen.

Very friendly and helpful staff. English is sometimes a problem but thank goodness for Google translate. We had our hotel for the day cancelled and they did everything to help us book a new hotel I would definitely recommend to stay there

Managed to book a room including breakfast for AUD103 per night, for 2 nights. As a solo traveller, this was really worth the money as the hotel had an amazing onsen - two outdoor ones, an indoor one and a sauna. The breakfast was delicious, with them changing the menu if you stay the second day as well. It's traditional Japanese breakfast, with fish, sashimi, pickles, egg and dessert. They even heat up the clam miso soup using the portable fire at your table when you arrive. The room has air conditioning and a mini fridge.

Spacious traditional room, elegantly furnished, and very clean. The staff took great care of us. We had a dinner at their restaurant and it was extraordinary. Probably the best meal we had in our 10 days trip.

Traditional style ryokan with the nicest and most hospitable hosts. Every member of staff at chousenkaku was extremely helpful and kind, going out of their way to accommodate any requests. The location is excellent, a short 10 minute walk to the station and 5 minutes to a convenience store if needed. The food was spectacular - we were delighted with our choice to stay here. The building has a rich history too, for which information can be found in the lobby and by speaking to the staff. The private onsen is reasonably priced and well appointed with amenities, water etc.

After two weeks of campervan we wanted to end our Japan trip with a ryokan stay. We are very happy we booked this place! Most amazingly was the private outdoor onsen. Rooms were big and extremely clean. There was some nice matcha tea and hot water provided, so we could enjoy the little tea room! Also there were yukatas we could borrow. Staff was also extremely kind!

All the meals were exceptional - traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner. It was beautifully plated and delicious if you want to experience traditional local cuisine! The rooms were large and the bed was very comfortable. We were able to reserve the private outdoor Onsen every day which was magical! The view was amazing looking over the snowy mountains and the Onsen was clean and very relaxing. The staff was very attentive and wanted to provide us with everything we needed and more!

A very nice ryokan, serving traditional japanese brrakfast and dinner. You have your private parlour in the restaurant, where you are served. The rooms are traditional, you sleep in the futon beds, which the staff makes for you. The rooms with lake view are just amazing.

Stunning location with Lake Suwa just in front of you. Rooms are spacious, Japanese style but we had western beds. Lovely public onsen, we had an amazing dinner and breakfast (highly recommended). We got a free shuttle transfer from Kamisuwa station, the staff are very nice and helpful. There is also a cute souvenir store inside where you can buy a lot of local specialties
