We went as a group and we loved the ryokan. It was very spacious, everything was very clean, and it was conveniently located near the bus station, the train station, and the city center where most of the shopping takes place. The rooms were the most spacious we stayed in throughout Japan, and the staff were all very kind. I would definitely stay here again.

Spent time with us to explain nearby areas and restaurants, spent time with my daughters to try on kimonos. Everyone was so kind and amazing. -Room was awesome and spacious. We had 2 children (age 11 and 8), 2 adults. We enjoyed the room and space. -Bedding (futon, comforter, pillows) was high end quality. Excellent comfort and clean. -Yukata robes in the room for each person to wear to onsen and in the house -Japanese breakfast was delicious ! We had 2 breakfasts, the menu was different each morning. -Hotel is not in the downtown area but we liked that. We enjoyed being away in a quiet area and the walk was not bad. Taking taxi was also easy and cost about 1,000 yen each way. -Onsen was very nice, and private. Super clean and so enjoyable to relax after a full day out. We stayed for two nights and while it cost more than other hotels, it was well worth it. Everything was superb. The selection of beautiful kimonos were amazing; I ended up buying 2 (one for my daughter, one for me). We can’t wait to go back and visit the staff, and experience the quietness of Takayama.

Well beyond expectations on almost every level: kindness, hospitality, food...
First of all, the host is really responsive both via the Booking message system and Whatsapp, which is a plus: even before getting to Japan we already chatted to arrange a pick up from the station to the hotel. So, if you are worried about the distance from the city center, forget your worries.
Second: the host's kindness and hospitality were even beyond the (already high) japanese standards and he also spent some time with us suggesting things to do and places to visit. Also, every other person working there was super-kind and sweet, we really felt welcomed.
Third: the food. The owner is a really skilled cook, offering an outstanding kaiseki-style dinner and breakfast, with both regional and national delicious dishes. One of the things that drove our choice to Nagataki were some previous reviews about the food, and we can confirm it was even beyond our expectations, with special attention to both the taste and the composition.
Last, the Nagataki charm. Here each host has its own traditional Japanese house, which is just an amazing way to experience a slice of traditional Japanese life. Also, the hotel has got a small onsen that - being few people in the structure for the night we spent there - was split in two private onsen.
So, to sum up, we cannot recommend Nagataki enough: if you are undecided, give it a try and you won't regret it.

We stayed in a tatami mat room (RM205) on the 2nd floor. The ryokan's location is great. Smooth checking. Large room. A private hot spring is wonderful.
Well appointed traditional Ryokan. Super clean rooms and comfy futons. Attached hot spring bath is intimate and cosy. Public baths were great too.. The dinner and breakfast were super delicious
The Japanese style tatamirooms are very comfortable and clean. You sleep on a futon and can use the yukata for sleeping, going to the restaurant or relaxing in your room and the hotel. The hotel is in the middle of Magome Juku and is run by nice people. If you stay here, definitely order the dinner set meal and breakfast set meal beforehand. It adds perfectly to the stay and the food is very delicious. The extra price you pay for the food is definitely worth it and good price and quality for value.
The ultimate choice for an authentic Japanese Ryokan experience! We had a room with Tatami mats and futon beds, a private bathroom and we got to wear Yukatas in and out of the hotel. The staff was super friendly and helped us with whatever we needed and breakfast was also great (Both the Japanese and European one). The Train and Bus stations were just 2 minutes walking distance. Thanks for everything!
Meals were excellent, you could tell that a lot of effort was put into the preparation and presentation of each dish. We also enjoyed the onsen, even though it was not private, no one else used it while we were there. Hospitality was also top notch with staff who took care to explain how everything worked at a ryokan and even sent us away with small gifts. The free yukata rentals were a nice touch too.
This is a charming ryokan, in a great location with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in a Japanese style room, and found the futons very comfortable (although were also sneakingly glad to have the normal sofa to sit in at other times). The atmosphere of the place is great, and the yukatas they provide - and the way they encourage you to wear them around the ryokan, including to breakfast - makes the whole experience very fun. Thank you for making our stay in Takayama so enjoyable!
A very good ryokan, a staff that welcomed us and explained all the facilities, we got a yukata (traditional dress), the dinner was very good with an aesthetic presentation and lots of small and tasty dishes. Nice onsen.
Beautiful yet remote ryokan. It has a real authentic Japanese feeling complete with tatami floors, futon beds and (private and public) onsen. Highly recommend the kaiseki add-on, it was delicious!! Very spacious room with private bathroom and outside onsen. We had a wonderful stay!
Staying at Ryokan Asunaro is an authentic experience. Our comfortable room, wearing the yukatas, sleeping on the futons, the kaiseki dinner and breakfast, the onsen - was all so enjoyable! The staff are very courteous and friendly too.
