Ryokan KANADE heeft een gunstige ligging in het centrum van Kyoto en beschikt over een tuin in Japanse stijl. The place was beautiful. My only regret is not taking the in-house breakfast and dinner.

Yuno Yado Shoei ligt op 8 minuten lopen van het station JR Tambaguchi en beschikt over een eigen openbare warmwaterbron en een Japans restaurant. A clean, calm, comfortable stay. Has a wonderful restaurant on-site. The hot pot was one of our best meals in Japan.

Kyomachiya Ryokan Sakura Urushitei ligt op 10 minuten lopen van de levendige buurt Kawaramachi en biedt accommodatie in Japanse stijl met moderne faciliteiten en een traditioneel design. The hotel staff were super helpful. The room was great, exactly as we have imagined it. It gave us the chance to experience a Ryokan. I definitely recommend it.

Ryokan Ryokufuso biedt gratis WiFi en een ruim, openbaar bad. De accommodatie ligt op 15 minuten lopen van het treinstation JR Kyoto. Echt slapen op autenthieke japanse wijze. Schone en nette kamers. Dinner was heel lekker en het pesoneel was heel behulpzaam en aardig.

Morizuya ligt aan de centrale winkelstraat van de wijk Kinosaki Onsen en biedt authentieke accommodaties in Japanse stijl, warmwaterbronnen en Japanse gerechten. Staying at Morizuya was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. This cozy, family-run ryokan radiates warmth and hospitality. Manager Hachisuka and his family do everything they can to make you feel at home, and our stay truly exceeded expectations. The ryokan is charming and traditional. We stayed in a spacious, comfortable tatami room with beautiful décor and a view of a peaceful garden. The room included a private toilet and sink, while bathing is done in their private onsen (yes, private — no need to bathe with others if that makes you uncomfortable). Morizuya provides yukata for men and women, sandals, bags, towels, and an onsen pass for the town’s seven public baths. Women can also choose a kimono for going out around town and shopping, while men can (and should!) relax in their yukata for this same purpose. I especially want to highlight how Manager Hachisuka truly went above and beyond. He’s not only an excellent photographer — taking beautiful photos of my fiancée and me among the cherry blossoms and guiding us to great photo spots — but also incredibly kind and attentive. He personally helped us with our schedule and drove us to the station early in the morning to ensure we caught our train on time. That level of care is something we’ll never forget. If you’re unsure where to stay, I strongly recommend Morizuya. We left with beautiful and unforgettable memories of this warm and authentic experience in Kinosaki. A few quick tips about the bath: There are two onsen inside the inn. From 7 AM to 3 PM, they’re public (men/women separated). From 3 PM to 11 PM they become private — no reservation needed. If the door’s unlocked, it’s available. Go in, lock the door behind you and enjoy. You’re welcome to bathe with your family or partner. Be sure to shower and clean yourself before entering the bath. Walking around town in your yukata(or kimono) is part of the charm, so don’t be shy — it’s all part of the experience.

De 1000-jaar oude boeddhistische tempel 高野山 宿坊 恵光院 -Koyasan Syukubo Ekoin Temple- biedt accommodatie in Japanse stijl, een prachtige tuin en gratis WiFi. The temple and grounds are stunningly beautiful. The room was the nicest I've had on this trip - comfortable and beautiful. The temple is cold but the heaters in the bedrooms made it very comfortable. The meals were delicious - again some of my best on my entire trip. They were very generous in sharing information about their religion and culture, and inviting tourists to participate in activities that helped us to better understand the life and routine at Ekoin. I appreciated the booklet in the room that explained how to navigate different things (e.g. the meditation, the morning service) so that I better understood. It was a special experience and was grateful for the opportunity to visit here.

I stayed at this wonderful ryokan during my trip to Kyoto, and I’m still deeply impressed! This is a truly authentic Edo-period style ryokan, with a serene and cozy atmosphere that beautifully preserves Japanese tradition. Everything—from the interiors to the hot baths—radiates a deep respect for cultural heritage. I want to especially thank the staff. I accidentally left a valuable piece of jewelry in the bath and had nearly accepted that it was lost. But the staff not only found it—they contacted me and kindly mailed it to my hotel in Tokyo. I was genuinely touched by their honesty, care, and attention. This place became more than just accommodation—it became a special memory of my journey in Japan. I will definitely return and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a truly Japanese experience and heartfelt hospitality. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
