The location is perfect, amazing lake views, close to the falls and free parking. The lady is adorable, she goes out of her way to make sure you have everything you need. The restaurant house is very cute. Food was delicious, both dinner and breakfast, and the vibe very cozy as there are not that many rooms. Baths were nice and warm and it was great to be able to have them privately.

Itamuro Onsen Daikokuya bevindt zich in Nasushiobara, op 42 km van Treinstation Shirakawa, en biedt accommodatie met een tuin, gratis privéparkeren en een terras. I was originally interested in this hotel because I read that the Onsen had a Museum full of Kishio Suga's work. I had been following this amazing Japanese artist for a number of years... so that fact was a deciding factor for me. But, the Onsen, the staff, the care that we felt they put into everything they did, the atmosphere of the place, the gardens also designed by Kishio Suga, the delightful guests we had the pleasure of meeting, our room and the food we were served - and let's not forget the tour of the museum! - made me love this place. Itamuro Onsen Daikokuya has history. Someone told us that the Onsen was 500 years old. Most of the Japanese guests we met there went to purely relax. The kind and capable staff take amazing care of all the guests: A Japanese friend in Tokyo told me I should celebrate the Winter Solstice while I was in Nasushiobara. She explained that on that one day, it had always been traditionally celebrated by putting YUZU fruit in Japanese baths and eating something made of pumpkin. I asked the hotel about all this. I really don't think it was part of their plan... but, they did it all: the YUZU in the baths and the specially prepared Pumpkin desserts. It was all to please us, their guests, and make sure our stay was perfect. I was so grateful and felt so pampered and happy. I enjoyed that fruit in the Japanese bath more than you can imagine. So, If you want to relax in a beautiful Onsen with history, go see great art at the. Suga museum, to have a beautiful experience,and be pampered in a very Japanese sort of way...you must come to Itamuro Onsen Daikokuya.

The Japanese style breakfast/dinner is full and taste good! Also, there is some screens setup among different guests in the dinning room, so we have privacy when having breakfast and dinner.

Established in 1666, Honke Bankyu is housed in a registered historical building. The Japanese rooms feature traditional decor, futon bedding and a flat-screen TV. The whole experience was exceptional, the food magnificent, I would definitely recommend it and stay there again

Delicious and plentiful! The view from our room was breath-taking. Our dinners (we treated ourselves to two) were exceptional and amazing. The second evening the chef changed up some selections for us which was very thoughtful. We also enjoyed the happy hour and playing some gamees together before dinner.

I felt like a mixture of an esteemed guest, friend and family while staying here. The hospitality and meticulous care of the staff, especially Maylene, the friendliness of the locals and the beauty of the hotel grounds and overall surrounding nature made for the perfect stay. My hotel room was like an apartment to myself and it was so clean, the beds were the most comfortable bed I’ve slept on, the floor has a heat option, there’s a mini kitchen (I didn’t get to cook anything though) and the shower was great and also has a tub for you to soak in too! They also give guests a yukata to wear! Every day I got a platter of fresh seasonal fruits and veggies sourced locally. They gave an option of a western or Japanese breakfast (I opted for the Japanese) and even how they served it and displayed it to you was meticulous. Food was delicious! They gave an option for a half day or a full day trip where staff can drive you around to different sites and experiences around the area. They have great recommendations (also make sure to read the material they provided you so you get a better idea on what you’d like to do). I did a soba making class and had a private onsen experience. The prices were fair for all the things I asked to do and see during my half day. They would also personally take me to restaurants and speak with them to help with the language barrier. It’s the countryside so the immediate town around was small but there’s still some things to sight see and eat; I spent one of my days just walking around and exploring town. I had food poisoning before coming here and I was literally nursed back to health here with the fresh food and the staff checking in on me all the time. If you’re hesitating, I’d say book this place for 1-3 nights at least. It’s a little far out but when are you ever going to stay in a historical 200 year old renovated complex in the beautiful countryside of Japan? You won’t regret it.
