Clean, everything is well thought of. Tip top class service, also not to forget to mention about the onsen. It has both hot and cold onsen, very clean with a hot sauna. All washing facilities are very clean and well kept. Also, both the Japanese restaurant and The Bar are astounding in design n service.

Established in 1666, Honke Bankyu is housed in a registered historical building. The Japanese rooms feature traditional decor, futon bedding and a flat-screen TV. Beautiful scenery, historic property, and very attentive staff. Traveling with children to ryokans is not easy, but they did a phenomenal job ensuring we weren’t too much of a bother to the other guests.

Absolutely love how child-friendly the hotel is. My children (3&1) loved the baby room with the toy kitchen, and the floor we were on had a small play space by the elevator, the wonderful play area inside and outside is fantastic and the buffet included children’s food & baby food. Just spectacular! My eldest experienced onsen for the first time and it was so spacious and easy for him to get around, he loved it! Me and hubby also loved the lounge evening drinks & snacks (which included sweets for the children - amazing) Thank you to the staff who spoke English for my check in!

One of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Wish we could have stayed more than 2 nights. As others have said, getting here is a bit of an adventure, but that’s also what makes it so special. The food was excellent, the outdoor onsen amazing! Highly recommend!!

We really liked our Japanese style room. It was huge and so comfortable. Onsen is amazing! Stuff was very friendly and we felt great. Location is just few minutes walk from the main temples, just great.

Their egg dishes and sausages were very good, and the morning coffee was above expectations. The spas were the convenient to use, and the outdoor spa was also satisfying. The second floor tea room is very charming and the furniture is very quaint in an old-European fashion. Make sure to use the shuttle bus that is available as it saves time. The timetable can be checked on the hotel’s website. Also, the staff are very warm and friendly, and are very helpful. I would like to stay at this hotel again if I were to visit Nikko in the future.

Wat een lieve mensen, wat een mooie plek. De onsen is heeerlijk, de bedden slapen super lekker en het hele verblijf is echt fantastisch. Ik kan jullie niet genoeg bedanken!
