Offering sea views, Ocean View Guesthouse in São Tomé offers accommodations, a garden, and a terrace. This beachfront property offers access to free Wifi and free private parking. We wanted nature and a beach option within walking distance. The shopping and dining options nearby were suitable for us with 3 km walk (one way). To drive into the city, it is about a 20-minute walk through the backland to the road where the yellow taxis drive at regular intervals. The way to the house is only for experienced off-road vehicle drivers and despite the polite warnings here, it exceeded our expectations :D Our recommendation: Request a pick-up service for arrival/departure and buy the first important things in the supermarket when you arrive. The rest can be obtained in the villages. Our room was spacious and had its own bathroom. There was a common area (lounge/couches/dining area) and a kitchen. All rooms were clean and well maintained. Cleaning staff came regularly. Everyone is very polite and accommodating. We felt richly gifted, as there are other beaches very close (only few steps through the hedge). In addition, there are fantastic shopping facilities (fruit/vegetables, beer, fresh fish) in Mikolo but also street restaurants to buy fresh fish, octopus, mussels. The fishing village of Mikolo is well known on the island. Since the designated restaurants on googlemaps only open after 6 p.m., they were not really an option for us. We did not find the footpaths in the dark desirable. Except for a few days we were alone in the accommodation. The house dog is very sweet and always hungry 😊 (I was shockingly in love and there was daily morning exercise together at sunrise). We highly recommend this accommodation for a longer stay. Portuguese/French are very welcome & helpful.

The climate, the forest and the scenic tropical views were unmatched. There are two main phenomenons regarding STome people: leve-leve and doce-doce. The first is very welcome when on holiday but can become a problem when you want to get things going. The second is more of a bittersweet feeling. It can be sweet when seeing it for the first time especially with children, but this turns to harrassment pretty quickly.
Language barrier is too problematic. English is something that even restaurants have difficulty to understand. Beaches are good. Can spend some lonely time at night without much trouble. Brush up on Portuguese language very well or one may end up not having a good meal! Loved to see the Boca De Inferno. The water gushing the rocks is awesome. Smooth roads give you the enjoyable drive towards the south of the island. The Great Dog Peak was worth a view! Loved to eat seafood at the Ilyang Ilyang Restaurant with a peaceful ambience and English understanding staff.
It´s a Paradise!!! You have to go and see all the sand beaches and eat all the fresh fishes. You have to experiment the santola in the restaurant with the same name. Go to Ilheu das Rolas! Very beautiful!
Sao Tome is a fantastic destination. A safe tropical Island almost untuched from the outside world. It is not for unseasoned travellers or the ones who want a lot of service and/or Diesney like conditions. It can be a bit costly and you have to bring cash in form of smaller Euro banknote denominations. Crime, political instability and diseases are much less than in surrounding countries, wich makes travelling here hazzelfree. The climate in the dry season (june-august) feels comfortable, especialy considering that it is tropical Africa. The islands abound with green lush tropical forrest with a lot of exotic fruits, fantastic beaches and some interesting sights. The food is good especially the fresh fish and shellfish, as well as the multitude of excotic fruits and vegetables. In Sao tomé Town I especially recomend the following restaurants/cafees : Papa figo, Camoes and Pastelaria Central, You get much more from your visit if you can speak portuguese. No Visa for 14 Days travel for EU citizens, no need for yellow fever vaccination certficate if travelling from Europe. There is four flights a week with TAP (portuguese) and one flight a week with STP (Sao tome air company)
They have a lot of historical sites and great beaches and islands with friendly people and lots of local cuisines. The city is in bad shape and bad roads and they need to develop the tourism sector particularly their tourist sites . The airport is bad for a tourism country like that and the hotels needs to up their services to meet a value for money and they need to learn English language which is an international language especially the staff of the various hotels and all tour guides. It’s a great place to visit at most for 5days.
An unknown jewel! We visited idyllic places, saw the most amazing sunsets over tropical beaches & saw very few tourists. Most of the locals were very friendly and helpful. It is a photographic paradise.
