I love the proximity to the beach and town. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming as they have been in previous stays. The room was exceptionally clean if somewhat dated. No luxuries but a definite win on price and value. Highly recommended if you want to be right on the beach and near everything. I never rent a car as anything you need is within walking distance.

The fresh food was stupendous. Our favorite restaurant was called "Como en mi Casa". The beaches were gorgeous. With guides, you see many sloths and monkeys. People are all very nice. I loved the Jaguar Rescue Center. They took in so many kinds of animals and they strive to rehabilitate them and return them to the wild. They were amazing.
Driving through the main part of town was VERY challenging. Sometimes, folks would just park in the street on a two lane street where there was only one lane for each direction of traffic. Scooters would dart around you from all directions and obeyed no traffic laws. There would be people walking everywhere and sometimes someone in your lane of traffic was pushing a banana cart.
It was hot and no restaurants had air conditioning and very few fans.
For these reasons, I would never want to go back. The difficulties were more challenging than what was offered.

A true jungle experience in a calm secure, laidback and amazing environment! Amazing little restaurants, beautiful beaches ! Much prefer this Caribbean Coast than the Pacific. Just rent a bike to move around or take a Tuktuk. Fruit markets on the roadsides!

Clearly a place for a younger crowd than us 70+ year olds but that didn't get in the way for us. Always treated well. Great to have such an international mix of people. Great food options, again with a mix of cuisines. With modest efforts you can arrange individualized itineraries for the sights. Infrastructure (local transportation, streets/roads, sidewalks) could benefit from updating - always a challenge in crowded, somewhat remote areas.

Charming Caribbean town, friendly
Charming Caribbean town, friendly
people, fun restaurant and entertainment options However, all gringo eateries are vastly overpriced. Avoid all the fancy places, totally not worth it. Exorbitant prices for nothing special. Opt for the few, but better, luncheonettes instead. Beer, not wine.
Loved Riquisimo! Be aware that different taxis charge different rates for the same trip, because they can haha! Chill! ;-)

This location is crowded with lots of traffic.
This location is crowded with lots of traffic. There’s trash alongside the roads and it’s very noisy at night. You must get up early to find a spot on the beach and the waves can be very rough and unsuitable for swimming just about anywhere. It is also far more expensive than we had remembered compared to our last trip vs the Pacific side.
If you must go to Caribbean side of Costa Rica, stay closer to Punta UVA or Manzanilla away from the crowds.
Where to eat in Puerto Viejo: La Nena, Zaika, Lidia’s Place, Tambie Bros, and Pizzeria Pulcinella.
The hotel is Beautiful, with very nice Gardens visited by birds and monkeys. The pool is the most. Clean and very beautiful illuminated at Night. The temperature is delicious, warm at Night. The room is bit and has everything you need, is clean and has Quality ítems for cooking. The staff is very kind. Is near the Beautiful Playa Chiquita Beach. The weather was incredibly nice, that was my luck. I've enjoyed every minute there. The wifi is fast and stable. They have TV with International channels. They've changed towels every day.
Great staff, great location, great food. Easy access to the beach across the street. Very clean beach and not crowded. Room with ac is a must for us coming from the arctic. The jungle all around make you feel you are almost alone.Tasty waves cantina make very good dishes and the size are quite big, one of the best place to eat in town. Staff always smile and can give you tip on expeditions.
Puerto viejo is near 2km, you can walk, ride a bike from Tasty Dayz or call a tuktuk for 2000 colones.
For your first time in Costa Rica, this is the perfect place. In addition to exquisite design, you will be warmed here with incredible care. The hotel staff will advise you on how to spend your time and the best places in the area. All recommendations were 100/100. In the middle of the vacation, the massage in the room came in very handy. The breakfasts are delicious. The hotel is family-run and small, so everything is done with great love.
It's a very nice "resort-like' *** hotel. Probably one of the best in Puerto Viejo region. Beautiful private beach just in front of the room's terrace. Nice pool, very nice rooms with kitchenette and good A/C, good water pressure in the shower, also free coffee in the lobby, volleyball court and a ping pong table. Seated in a well preserved natural garden on the beach with occasional visiting monkeys on the trees. We enjoyed very much!!
The Alloro Jungle Villas is a perfect family getaway! I would highly recommend to other guests. Our villa was private, secure, comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, a/c, the pool was great for the kids too! It is located near Cocles beach, with all the stores and restaurants a short drive away. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Over the years of visiting the Puerto Viejo area, this is on the best places we've ever stayed at.
We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Lina. The apartment was very clean and comfortable. It is also perfectly located at a quiet street, but near to the shop, restaurants and the beach. The best thing about this accomodation is the garden - we saw there howler monkeys, toucans, agutis and more. Also not forget to mention the great cat companion. The owners were very helpful and we could text them anytime. We highly recommend this place!
I love the quaintness and beauty of the property. Also the location is perfect and all the staff are so friendly. I was very well looked after. The beds are so comfortable with so much space. And the hotel has a lovely pool where you can relax or you can walk to the beach 5 mins away. It’s the perfect place to stay in Puerto Viejo.
Thank you!
- amazing little boutique hotel near playa negra and 5 mins by tuktuk to Puerto Viejo
- exceptional staff, super attentive and friendly
- great breakfast
- smart tv in all the rooms (incl Netflix)
- great music by the pool every day
- we were invited to a lovely dinner party with all other hotel guests for the hotels 1st anniversary
Perfect location, on a beautiful, private and quiet beach. Super close to Puerto Viejo town with loads of restaurants, super markets, bike & scooter rentals. Lovely place with gorgeous ocean views and the unit has everything we needed for our stay. We even saw a sloth right on the grounds! The gardens are also really beautiful.
I loved the jungle effect there were sloths and agouties and poisonous dart frogs at the hotel. The pool was great and warm. Very refreshing after a hot day. Free breakfast was nice as well. There are restaurant options around and the beach across the street was beautiful except not very swimmable. Red flags the whole time.
The breakfast was spectacular! Leon' is definitely a 5 star gourmet chef! Still want to know his recipe for hot sauce! Yummy! It's off the grid, but close enough to great restaurants, the beach and shopping in downtown Puerto Viejo! Also, the other best thing is getting around Puerto Viejo in the local Tut Tut's!
The location is perfect, just a few minutes drive from Puerto Viejo center which is ideal if you’re looking to stay slightly away from all the action. The rooms are all beach front which gives you an amazing view. you have access to a huge pool, workout room, nearby restaurants and KM of beaches.
The hotel was set off the main road so you didn't get road noise. You could walk to beaches, shopping, and food. If you didn't want to get into your car you wouldn't have to. It was so comfortable, breakfast was good and I would definitely come back to stay.
Very nice apartment with a lot of space, the kitchen has everything you need for cooking, a very delicious bakery is just 1 min away, nice beaches nearby, the best: we saw so many animals from the terrace (birds, lizards, squirrels, iquanas and a sloth!)
A lot of nature in the hotel, near to Chiquita beach (yo can go walking) and punta UVA.
The room was comfortable and peaceful.
the staff is so friendly an always aware for support and attend the requirements of the guests.
The breakfasts was amazing!
Breakfast is great with best coffee and I made sure exact order not to waste the food. The room is a little dark for my liking due to beautiful dark tropical wood. The pool a bonus as well the beach nearby.
