"The County", hotel in Clovenfords

Located in central picturesque Selkirk, the "The County" is a friendly former coaching inn on the market square. Each room has an private bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Breakfast was an option, but we opted instead to use the communal refrigerator and eat a cold breakfast that we purchased at the nearby market. We were offered the use of the area for dinner if we had wanted to get takeaway. That type of flexibility is nice when you have been traveling for a while.

Mamma House, hotel in Clovenfords

This apartment features free private parking, private check-in and check-out, and free Wifi.

The apartment truly was home away from home. Everything was very lovingly prepared and arranged. We loved to have good cooking ware. The location is both quiet and restful yet close to Melrose restaurants, grocery stores, museums, and hikes. Our hosts were thoughtful and professional, and very easy to contact.

Room well suited for disability access but poorly located...

Room well suited for disability access but poorly located beside front door and in corridor leading to busy bar and busy rear conservatory areas. Hotel popular with local, noisy, rowdy young drinkers, all swearing loudly, females screaming at each other constantly rather than conversing naturally. Speaking as a mother of 2 students and former Secondary School Teacher this establishment’s bar guests did not represent themselves, the local neighbourhood, Scottish tourism positively and I would most certainly not recommend this establishment for families. The Guests in 2 other rooms, although situated on the upper floor were also unable to experience the relaxing Sat evening watching TV they had envisaged and like us, did not receive an apology the following day from those responsible for mismanaging the situation.

We had a family room that was quite spacious.

We had a family room that was quite spacious. The hotel is very easy to find and is a good break night if travelling further north. Although it is situated on the outskirts of town it is very quiet and peaceful with very good views. During our stay we ate in the hotel bar and found the menu selection to be the standard fayre expected on a pub menu. All well cooked and reasonably priced for a travelling family. The staff were polite and friendly.

    The staff were great.

The staff were great. The new owners need to get in touch with Booking.com (or the other way round and amend the info sheet). The faults were minor and didn't cause me any problems. The more fastidious might have had issue. It was the best nights sleep I have had in ages

Quirky hotel in lovely location. We were not expecting it to be as nice because of the price but were very pleasantly surprised. We had a meal in the bar and it was exceptionally good, people at the next table were also really pleased with their food and portion size. We met the new owner and some of the staff. We wish them all well on their new venture.

The house is lovely and in a gorgeous location. It is clean and very welcoming. Ishbel had left us milk, juice, bannock bread among many other home comforts. The local area is beautiful and the Clovenfords hotel also serves excellent food, so that’s also well worth a visit.
