The Retreat Hotel, hotel in Garve

Set in Strathpeffer, 31 km from Inverness Castle, The Retreat Hotel offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking and a bar.

The tasty breakfast, the generous hospitality, and the beautiful grounds exceeded all of our expectations. Scott went above and beyond to make me and my daughter feel comfortable. The hotel is quite quaint and one-of-a-kind. Scott tells me this hotel is a labor of love, restoring it to its previous charm and elegance. Well done, Scott. Your passion for detail and excellence was pervasive throughout our stay. My only regret is that I wish we were staying longer.

OYO Mackay's Travel Lodge Hotel is located in Strathpeffer, 800 metres from Strathpeffer Spa Golf Club and 33 km from Inverness Railway Station. This 2-star hotel offers free WiFi.

Comfy bed, rooms were a good size and clean. The price was great - we paid £65 a night for a family room and the cheapest alternative we could find anywhere within 30 miles was £258! Free parking. Also in a handy location close to shop , deli etc Definitely read some reviews before booking. If you're just looking for somewhere clean and basic to lay your head for the night then this is perfect but if you're expecting something more then I'd recommend booking elsewhere.

Holly Lodge, hotel in Garve

Holly Lodge is a Victorian house set in its own garden grounds and within the conservation village of Strathpeffer.

Fiona was very friendly giving advice on places to visit. The house was beautiful and our room was large but cosy with a four poster bed. Lots of little extras included. Lovely breakfast, lots of choice. Views from the garden and room were amazing.

Coul House Hotel, hotel in Garve

Coul House Hotel is set in the hills above Contin and offers scenic views and an award-winning restaurant.

Food was excellent. The room we were given was not up to expectations by a very long mile..the bathroom was not big enough to get a cat out of a toilet bag , swinging , not possible. The smallest bathroom that I have ever experienced. Gave me clostrifobia!. I believe that guests booking through Booking. com , get the ‘what ever is left’

Fantastic for anyone who enjoys walking or being outside.

Fantastic for anyone who enjoys walking or being outside. Beautiful scenery, next to river and loch, many walking trails with waterfalls. No shops, pubs etc in the area, local hotel has closed down, have to drive to nearest village for shop but not too far, and also under 30 minutes to Dingwall, just under 40 to Ullapool.

Absolutely gorgeous location - our stay at Rosemount Cottage and Bothy was fabulous both cottages and location absolute hidden gems. If you stay in Garve I highly recommend the cottages and I would give them both a 5 star review. Best stay in the highlands to date.

The hotel staff were welcoming and freindly. it is located near to a busy road. The grounds were very pleasant. The room we had was a good size , very clean with a reasonable garden view. The beds were a little tired and firm for our taste. The in house bar served a good selection of beers and spirits. During our visit we tended to eat out in the evenings but the breakfasts we had were well presented and tasty , there was plenty of selection for other tastes. The hotel itself was a little tired and that could be seen in the decor and heard in the creaking floors, especially on the first floor. The overall experience was good and at the price we had, it was good value. As a short stop I would say its a great stop.

Beautiful area and a bit funky 450 year old lodge.

Beautiful area and a bit funky 450 year old lodge. We loved the hospitality, comfortable common area, and food, but mostly I'd recommend it for those who want to explore the mountains and coast just west of there, incredible!

What an absolute joy to stay at Rosemount Cottage for four nights! All the information you could need for your stay was provided, and the cottage was impeccably clean. The living room space was a highlight for our late-November stay. With extra deep seating, warm blankets, and a log burner, it would be nearly impossible to not feel at home here. The Christmas decorations were an added bonus to the ambiance! We explored the sights near Garve and further out, and the cottage was a wonderful place to recharge. Hope to return again one day!

The room was basic but had en-suite. ;4 bunk beds. But only £30 each Food was really good quality We cleaned them out of gin. As they closed up. Christian the manAger let us use the cafe. Then it was 1am. We raided the fridge found 3 bottles beer. The manager was great about it. Gave him £20 for the staff members who’s bottled we drank. Highly recommend the hotel. Basic. Clean. Friendly. X The price meant we could spend more on food and booze.

The cottage was stylish, spacious, and extremely comfortable. The location was just fantastic, beautiful garden to hang out in overlooking wild flowers, fields and mountains. The unexpected bonus was Little Garve, a local beauty spot just 15 minutes walk away down a forest metalled road where there was a terrific adventure play park for little ones - as we had a two-year-old with us, he was more than happy, which meant the rest of us were too!!

Perfect self-catering cottage, a house really, in a tranquil spot. What needed to be new was new, what was old was superbly maintained. The one disadvantage is that Garve is a bit of a drive from the spectacular spots to the north west, and the house is so comfortable that it makes you want to spend a lot of time in it rather than get in the car

John & Helen were brilliant hosts (and neighbours); very welcoming and on hand to offer good advice on destinations and local walks. The cottage was spotlessly clean but was not at all "clinical" - the furnishings struck a good balance for us. The quiet hamlet of Garve was the ideal location for us and our (well behaved) dog was welcomed.

A fantastic little gem of a place in the middle of the village of Garve. Absolutely nothing to do in Garve itself but if you're after a travel base that superbly equipped, quiet, clean, cozy, excellent WiFi, shower, safe parking, dog friendly. John and Helen have put a lot of care and attention to ensure your stay has everything you need.

Excellent location for touring the local area and for hill walking. Train direct into Inverness for a day trip was an added bonus. The comfort of the accommodation and the high quality of the furnishings and fixtures was well worth the expense. The outside seating area was superb.

The Inn is updated, clean, and very comfortable. They've taken great care in decorating them and maintaining the rooms. It's located in a nice rural area that doesn't have 500 tourists. The food at the restaurant was amazing! I had the goulash, and it was just like grandma's!

The bed and bedding was of good quality. The hotel has potential with its location and historical value but the impression one is left with is that it is being “run on the cheap” and money is not being invested into its staff or its upkeep.
