The hotel/restaurant was straight out of a Dickens novel. The feel of the place was very English. A movie set. The staff matched the vibe.

Lovely property in a quiet street close to the sea wall
There is a range of attractions to suit all tastes.
There is a range of attractions to suit all tastes. If you like history, there are self guided audio trails, museums devoted to the naval history and military signficance of the napoleonic and first and second world war. I came for the photographic opportunities, with massive container ships, sailing boats and the potential for glorious sunrises over the ocean. It does look a bit run down in places and I was a bit apprehensive, but everyone was very friendly, and I would sum it up as an unspoilt gem, from an earlier, more relaxed era.

Some lovely old buildings surrounded by industrial complexes. Every horizon you can’t avoid the super tank loading cranes and other industries.
If your a real ale fan, unfortunately there is very little. The Hanover burnt down so the owners opened a pop up beer shop near by. It was the only decent pint I could find. The Alma bar and rooms had an excellent atmosphere and food, but the beer is dreadful and expensive.

I was pleasantly surprised by how lovely Harwich was, there was lots of history in the old town and pretty little streets. There was not much in the way of restaurants or coffee shops but what was there was good. I ate at the Alma Inn.

During the summer months Harwich has a great deal to offer as it is by the sea, near a lovely beach which stretches to Dovercourt, and has a long maritime history. It has a new museum, upgraded cafes and park.

I had no idea until we spent some time there yesterday what an interesting and historic place Harwich is. Was particularly moved by the sculpture of the "kindertransport" children by the halfpenny pier (Jewish children sent by their parents from the NL to the UK to save them from the concentration camps). Would like to explore further.

The hotel room was, Okay, bed was hard, pillow hard, cupboards falling off, only 2 hangers, local uses of the bar were very rude and aggressive towards us, making our stay very uncomfortable. Hotel is in a built up street.
The house was beautifully decorated with some lovely period features, extremely clean & very well-appointed. It was also very well positioned, being just yards from the seafront and the rest of historic Harwich. Thanks must go to our host, who was extremely accommodating, even going as far as to ask how we wanted the bedrooms making up!
The owner, Jayne, is lovely and made sure we had a really nice stay in Harwich. From restaurant recommendations and umbrellas to extra milk for tea, nothing was too much trouble. the location between Harwich and Dovercourt is excellent, the en-suite twin room was ideal for our requirements, and breakfast was delicious.
The property and the room has a lot of character. It was very nice and we would certainly love to come back if we ever travel by boat to Harwich again. The train station is close by and the connection to London is quick and easy.
The pub and beer garden looked really nice and inviting.
Position for Harwich excellent and easy parking. The room we had was really beautiful, much nicer than normal hotels. Staff were worried about my husband getting up stairs and could not have been more helpful. We are hoping to return to Harwich and certainly hope they have room for us.
My stay at Driftwood cottage was excellent, great location and the old town of harwich was so historic. Lot's of lovely old pubs that all offer great food. The cottage was so cosy and we had the best sleep, would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.
Good hotel for a short stay before boarding the ferry at harwich. The proximity of the hotel location was very near to the stena line boarding which is very helpful. Hotel was clean and tidy. Check in uncomplicated, seperate door for the bar too, which is good.
It was such a cool old inn. Like stepping back into the 19th century but with all the modern conveniences. The food in the dining room was excellent both breakfast and dinner. The location was close to everything and easy access by taxi to the port.
great location for both Harwich & Dovercourt. Very clean, comfortable furniture. Kitchen had a few essentials thanks.Loads of towels. Parking very good - we did manage to run a cable and charge oue electric car too
I Don’t know what sort of hotel doesn’t take cash to pay for you booking utterly ridiculous I’d been to my nieces funeral and booked this in advance nothing to tell me on booking it was card only
Great little stop over at the Tower Hotel. Clean and comfortable room. Fabulous dining area with tasty food. Staff were polite and helpful. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend 👌
Room was nice and distance to Harwich International station and ferry was approx 12 min. walk. We had early sailing so we chose to stay one night close to the port
Easy check in. Great location for early Harwich ferry. Fridge access to store food for journey. Free parking. Breakfast can be ordered if wanted. Spacious room.
Rooms were clean and comfortable. Good value. This is a hotel above a pub, but it was not busy the night were were there. Breakfast in the pub was good.
Very cosy and warm. Lovely location as we were able to walk along the beach, plenty of places to visit and very interesting to learn more about Harwich.
