Lochranza is beautiful and pristine - much like all of Arran however you experience more of a wilderness vibe than you do at the larger settlements such as Brodick or Whiting Bay.
There is plenty to see and do in Lochranza, with wildlife galore! We managed to spot some otters!
The scenery is just breathtaking.

Beautiful North Arran!
Beautiful North Arran! do yourself a favour and walk here from another part of the island; opt for either coastal or hill walks to get there. You'll be rewarded with beautiful scenery all the way, including waterfalls. Be patient, and you'll also be rewarded with amazing wildlife; seals, deer & stag, a range of birds, and if you're very patient......sea otters!
Besides having the ideal location for both hiking trips and visiting Lochranza distillery, probably the best food on Arran is served in Butt Lodge. What Kath and Mac pull off in their kitchen is truely exceptional. As eating there is a privilege to the guests of the house, you should never make the mistake to have dinner somewhere else. For the quality served the prices are very reasonable as well. The rooms were tidy and spacious and everything met or exceeded our expectations. Just go there and you will want to come back.
We spent two nights in the hostel in the double room (Queen size bed). The hostel was quite clean and the staff very friendly. There is a large kitchen with a lot of equipment to make your own meals, and the hostel offers the possibility to buy breakfast (granola, milk, yogurt, fruit, bread and jam, with vegan options) and a pre-cooked microwavable dinner (with a few vegetarian options), which was great as there are no shops in Lochranza.
Location was excellent in terms of north Lochranza Ferry although far from Brodick Ferry. The connectivity with public transport can be a challenge if the Bus service is missed or running late or any guest makes the mistake of not planning the travel timings as it is remotely far up north from East or West Coast. Spectacular sights of the Glens & Valleys and Lochs and of course amazingly close to the Castle
The hosts were so friendly. They made sure you were looked after but at the same time, gave you sufficient privacy
We had dinner and breakfast at the accommodation. The food was the best we had staying in Arran. Much better than other accommodations (including a particular 4 star hotel in Brodick) that we've stayed in Arran.
The location was also beautiful and so peaceful too.
Everything exceeded expectations. The bedroom was well appointed and the bed comfortable. The hotel is in a very quiet location with excellent views. The food was always fresh and expertly cooked. I also enjoyed fresh milk in the bedroom and high quality coffee and tea/bags. The owners were always attentive and helpful.
owner was lovely lady and came to meet us after arrival to explain that you have to order food in advance if you want an evening meal, which at the time was disappointing no bar area or drinks area.nice breakfast room and breakfast and service was very good plenty choice of tea and coffee in room, lovely view
The location is beautiful, the rooms very tastefully decorated and extremely clean.
Dinner menu had been sent to us prior to arrival and was excellent, locally sourced produce and plentiful
The owners were friendly and provided good local information
The hostel is situated in spectacular scenery.
Short walking distance to Sandwich Station (highly recommended) and Lochranza Country Inn (highly recommended).
Beautiful scenery & near to Lochranza Castle.
Situation is great & good bus services.
It was set in the most beautiful location standing alone from the main village in Lochranza. Despite being set apart it was a short walk to get around . The decor was very tasteful and luxurious, perfect to relax after a long cycle ..!!!!
I was in a private room which was ensuite which I wasn't expecting. Lochranza was a quiet, peaceful spot nestled between some beautiful hills with views towards the western side of the Mull of Kintyre.
Garden at front with tables, plenty parking and close to Lochranza Ferry port. Excellent Sandwich Shop close by for a bacon roll and coffee in the morning.
