A beautiful location with stunning views over the lake Windermere. The room I had “premier” was absolutely fantastic. Clean and tidy. With the most beautiful view of the lake. The room also featured a door that takes you outside to a little garden area.
Jet spa bath and walk in shower were both amazing and worked absolutely spot on. Bathroom was clean and well present.
Upon arrival I was greeted by a lovely old building with great character and charm. Sure it’s a little dated but I think it adds to the atmosphere.
Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The lovely man behind the bar wrote down some locations I should visit whilst I was in the area.
The spa is lovely. Very clean and sterile. A lovely steam room and dry sauna with a very large pool and sun loungers. Outside there were 2 hot tubs, looking over the lake. I cannot lie I don’t think I’ve ever sat in a hot tub with a view like that!
The prices are a little on the expensive side. But I think it was worth it for the experience that I had. It was fab!
Worth noting - £20 charge per person per day on the spa (but they do tell you this).
On the shores of Lake Windermere, Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa has an award-winning restaurant, a beauty spa and scenic views. Windermere centre is a 20-minute walk away.

In a most spectacular location on the shores of England’s longest lake, Windermere, Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa is the Lake District’s first resort offering a number of facilities.

We liked this place. It's 10 minutes' drive from Bowness. We checked-in online and receptionist gave us keys. We were given information about the spa area and the restaurant. The room vas better than in the pictures. It was quite spacious and clean. Our room 40 had a separate entrance. The bathroom was spotless. There were some toiletries and hair dryer. We had a bath and shower. Then we went to the restaurant. The dinner was tasty and the portions were large. We were chilling and relaxing outside as the weather was sunny and warm.
The pool, jacuzzi and sauna were fab.
In the morning we had breakfast. Traditional English breakfast was good even better than other hotels provide. I'd like to admit that there was plenty of parking in the parking lot. What I liked most was the silence in the morning. Sounds of nature and clean air. Thank you very much for such a lovely weekend.
By the way, our tour was: Bowness - boat to Ambleside - bus to Grasmere - hotel. The next day hotel - Bowness car ferry (7 pounds per car) - Beatrix Potter House (booked in advanced) - Castle - Ambleside - home.
This peaceful, family-run Lake District hotel is a 5-minute stroll from Lake Windermere. The Burn How’s rooms are all situated in the private grounds, away from the main building.

The whole experience at Sawrey house was excellent.
The whole experience at Sawrey house was excellent.
Our room was great.
Clean and the decor was class throughout the hotel.
Friendly staff nothing was to much trouble.
The food was excellent.
Just one minor criticism the plates could do with being hot as food went cold quickly.
Would definitely have a return visit.

Such a lovely village. Two pubs serving local beer.
Such a lovely village. Two pubs serving local beer. It was quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of Ambleside and Windermere. Walking distance from Hawkshead (20-30min walk) and similar distance from the ferry over to Windermere. I 100% want to return.

Location is good for Western side of Lake District as it is on west side of Windermere - access to Hawkshead and Coniston is good and also Grasmere and westwards. I chose this location for access to Tarn Hows.
Anyone wanting to visit Grizedale and Duddon Valley and Langdale will suit this location - Hardknott Pass and Wrynose Pass.
For Windermere/Ambleside/Keswick and North Lakes, stay on the eastern side of Windermere where the road is also faster and stunning scenery to Keswick.

Near Sawrey is a pretty village whose main draw is linked to Beatrix Potter. It is a must do for any fan of this much loved author but once visited, nearby Hawkshead offers more facilities in a cosy setting.
The staff where unbelievably polite and helped in any way possible nice to relax and chat with people,David was so down to earth and keeps a fantastic hotel the chef he employs is absolutely spot on the girls where fantastic at there job right down to the house keeper.the Gardner keeps beautiful grounds if you want to visit hill top farm this is the place to stay walk out the door across the car park book your time walk 200 yards and your back in time with Beatrix potter I will definitely be back to stay.excellent rooms and very clean
food was excellent throughout. Staff were very friendly, patient, and provided good advice. The hotel was relaxing and we very much enjoyed the lounge and bar. We were close to the Beatrix Potter house, and the local connections were good to other towns and villages in the vicinity. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom well equipped. The single room that our son used was a good size, and good storage, with a pleasant view.
Beautiful old house, great location. For Beatrice Potter fans, her house Hill Top right next door. Great pub just up the road. Unfortunately we didn’t book evening meals there so was fully booked. So you need to do that, but had lovely lunch there. Food in hotel was brilliant, but far too much, portions were huge, that’s not a complaint just such a waste.
We will be going back there, wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
Great location in Near Sawrey, with plenty of things to do nearby but far enough away from the busiest areas of Windermere. Near Sawrey is also nice itself, with a pleasant pub and a children's playground, as well as a nice short walk to Moss Eccles Tarn straight out of the door.
The apartment was nice, with ample parking, a nice living room and black-out blinds making for a good night's sleep
I love everything about this hotel! The location is stunning, the decoration is beautiful and the staff are really friendly and helpful.
The food was delicious and never had to wait long for it.
The patio area is lovely for sitting out and enjoying the sunshine, and the lounge is perfect for just relaxing! I came just to rest and relax, and that's exactly what I did
I just love it here
Excellent breakfast using local ingredients. Perfect location with views over Esthwaite lake. We loved our lake view room complete with four poster bed which was extremely comfortable. A very peaceful restful location with gentle walks from hotel including Beatrice Potter trail. Delicious evening meals also. We were made to feel very welcome by the owner and staff.
I booked a 2 night stay at this beautiful hotel for my dads 60th Birthday for him and his partner. Exceptional staff, food was amazing and to wake up to those views were breathtaking. They really made a fuss of him knowing it was his special day.
Exceptional breakfast.
Utterly charming inn; so quiet and pastoral.
Loved the little hamlet of Near Sawrey and especially loved the strong connection with Beatrix Potter, both at Ees Wyck and also up the hill at Hill Top.
It's a lovely little studio that has everything you need. It is very clean and nicely renovated. The area is beautiful, you can walk down to the lake through private hotel land.
