One Marine Place, hotel in Port Bannatyne

One Marine Place features sea views, free WiFi and free private parking, located in Port Bannatyne.

Good location, easy to find, easy to park, lovely sea view. Apartment was warm, kitchen well equipped and everything was very clean. The bedding and towels were good quality. There were extras provided like toiletries, dishwasher tabs, washing up liquid, tinfoil, tea and coffee sachets etc. The host had thought about everything that might be needed and I think the apartment offered excellent value for money. The wifi worked fine for us - sometimes slow but that's to be expected in an island location. Local information leaflets and clear instructions about the apartment were provided. There was a large garden area with seating/dining furniture and a washing line you could use if required. The host was available to contact by mobile, though we didn't need to.

The cottage is at Ettrick bay, not Port Bannatyne!

The cottage is at Ettrick bay, not Port Bannatyne! Ettrick bay is beautiful. Large sandy beach on the west coast of Bute. Minimal accommodation available here. Surrounding fields support a good selection of wildlife.

Port Banny as local’s refer to Port Bannatyne has always...

Port Banny as local’s refer to Port Bannatyne has always been a beautiful location only a short bus or car journey away from the town of Rothesay. It has a lovely community feel, with our favourite, the anchor pub being community owned and run along with the local post office which will cook up up a fabulous Scottish breakfast(or just your lorne sausage in a Scottish roll plus vegetarian options), along with newspapers and milk and all the essentials. The view is gorgeous whether the Sun is shining or Scottish rain is visiting. Location gives you easy access by bus or car or bicycle to all the treats of the Isle of Bute. Having visited the island for a number of years and stayed in a number of different properties, given that this one is also dog friendly and only on the first floor with a well lit stairwell (close). I think it is really good value for the money, per night. I have stayed at several other properties, where far too much of the owners Personal possessions and personal quirks are on show for example, a taxidermy swan at a flat with a view of the castle where the rest of my family were staying during our visit. In 2019, the entire family stayed in a large house along Craigmore area, Mount Stuart Road, and we only lasted a couple of nights because every room was over stuffed to the extent that you couldn’t put your own things on a side table coffee table, even find space in the kitchen, so this property that we stayed in was quite the opposite to that thankfully. it was minimalist, but it had what you needed and the heating was very efficient to use if you needed to use it and by far it’s been my favourite property I’ve stayed at so far. Booking the flat and follow-up from the owners was simple to do and operating the key safe was no challenge at all having been reminded of the key safe number on the morning of our arrival.

nice location and pretty quiet,we were self catering I took a supply of microwave meals with me to make life easier Im pleased I did as there is only two small co op stores and found them very expensive compared to home.our main reason to come here was to visit Mount Stuart being members of Historic Houses two or three days is more than enough to get round the sights on the island

Island scenery and views are lovely.

Island scenery and views are lovely. Easy to get around by car and there seemed to be plenty of buses criss-crossing the island although we didn't use them. Our accommodation was good value for money - 3 nights for a party of 5 for £330 in August. Mount Stuart House very interesting, but avoid the sub standard eatery - expensive and frankly poor quality. Standard and menu selections of restaurants on island generally is extremely poor - we were unable to find an option for anything approaching fine dining anywhere. The pub grub and fast food we had were very sub standard, which was the only down side of our trip. If this is important to you, just be warned. You may want to self cater as far as food goes. Bute is still well worth a visit though.

I loved the self catering apartment with a beautiful seaview...

I loved the self catering apartment with a beautiful seaview. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Rothesay was a short 15 minute walk away. We mainly cooked our own food as you had to book for restaurants and several we called were fully booked. My partner booked a meal at the Esplanade for my birthday. However the steak was full of grizzle and the baked potatoes were undercooked. Also portion very small for a main meal so wouldn't return there. Zaveroni Cafe do a lovely fish tea and lovely icecream. It was sad to see all the pubs and a hotel had closed in Port Bannatyne so seemed like a ghost town. However we did see a Bistro, a Post Office shop a 1950's style cafe and hotel. The Marina in Port Bannatyne seemed busy and boat trips were available from there. Port Bannatyne seemed a well kept place with lots of bright flowers in tubs. I would loved to have seen all the pubs open to sample the atmosphere. One of the pubs with a hotel is up for sale so would bring some life to the area if someone bought it.

Property is not actually in Port Bannatyne .it is in Ardbeg...

Property is not actually in Port Bannatyne .it is in Ardbeg which is about half way between Rothesay and Port Bannatyne, which was good as there is nothing in Port Bannatyne. Rothesay is the main town, about 1 mile walk. Great on a good day but not much to do in bad weather (many places were shut due to covid restrictions) Scenery is stunning and plenty opportunity for walking . We went on Waverley paddle steamer on a sail round Bute, through the narrows and Kyles of Bute stopping and Tighnabruich ..amazing trip. Also visited the gardens at Mount Stuart which are also great (no time to visit the house) We had trouble getting somewhere for a sit down meal . Tried 3 nights in a row and every place (there aren't many and they are all small) was fully booked If yu are looking for a quiet holiday with amazing scenery the Isle of Bute is th eplace to be ....beautiful isolated beaches around the island
