Castle Altomonte is an exceptionally well-maintained property with breathtaking views and friendly local business owners and local folk. The multi-tasking, efficient and knowledgeable Concierge Giuseppe welcomed us warmly and gave us a brief tour of the public areas of the castle. The Castle’s owner once served the nation in several governmental divisions and is charming, if you can converse with him in Italian.
If you are not yet handy with Google translate, familiarize yourself with ‘voice mode’ and you’ll do just fine here.

The host was very welcoming and the room was big. There was a safe space to keep my bicycle inside the structure. Breakfast was abundant with home made cakes and several other choices. I loved the story about the name of the house and the little.museum inside! For dinner there are a couple of restaurants in the town centre, a short walk away.

The Albergo and the room and breakfast room were beautifully designed and decorated. The room was large and comfortable. The roof deck was a very nice surprise, with an amazing view! The staff was very friendly. We loved being in the historic center.

We really love small old italian towns build centuries ago high in the mountains. San Donato is excellent example - has its own atmosphere, is a bit away from the main routes and you clearly feel that it is a hometown for local people rather than a "tourist focused" destination.
