Authentic old school japanese country hotel. Easy connection via Shinjo and we were collected at the station . We had a room facing the river, with the sound of running water. Great onsen. Snacks on arrival. Traditional Japanese breakfast. Lots of japanese families over the weekend. They coped with our foreignness! Remember tatami mats and futons.

We stayed on the 6th floor where we were able to see the Mount Gassan covered with snow. The staff at reception called Mr Ito was absolutely courteous and helpful equally Ms Hatta in the restaurant was was polite and hard working. By the way the breakfast we had in the restaurant was superbly presented and tasty.

Nice Onsen. Dinner and breakfast were very good. We liked the traditional Japanese dinner. Every dish is good like fine dining. Breakfast spread has lots of varieties. There’s local dessert like mochi and it’s so delicious. Of course there’s the mains which are all very good.
There’s shuttle bus to fetch us to the nearest train station

We stayed at this hotel as a base to ski at Onikoube for Powderhounds.com. We were hoping that Naruko Onsen would be a cute little onsen town, and whilst this hotel and a few other hotels were aesthetically nice, the village itself looked really tired and run down.
The room had plenty of space and it was nice that it had an ensuite bathroom.
The main 6th floor onsen was the better looking onsen and we thought we were accustomed to hot onsen, but this one was particularly hot. There was a small outdoor onsen with fake bamboo screening. The indoor onsen was nicer, with its views across the town & mountains.

Faded grandeur, once a pretty fancy hotel it is now a bit tatty around the edges but that is part of it's charm, lovely big rooms. It's a long way from the station, don't try to walk it if your bag is heavy, just get a taxi. Good ramen place next door. There is a shuttle bus to take you back to the station on departure.
