Parking was convenient. Room was clean and big enough for 2 large luggage (although the floorplan of the room was a bit awkward). We loved the porridge at breakfast. Breakfast selection was not extremely extensive, but the varieties were more than adequate. There was a convenient store within walking distance (about 5 min. walk I think).

While Nagano is best known outside Japan as a Winter...
While Nagano is best known outside Japan as a Winter Olympics host city and a favourite place for people to ski in Winter, it is also the site of the Zenkō-ji Temple.
As one of the most important Buddhist sites in Japan it is extensive and beautifully landscaped. Despite the large number of visitors we felt calmed each of the times we walked through the grounds. You can also purchase a ticket (¥1,200) to climb the Niōmon Gate, visit the main Hondo and walk through the dark tunnel, turn the giant storehouse that contains a complete set of sutras, and see the museum in the war memorial pagoda at the rear of the complex.
Nagano itself is a nice prefectural capital surrounded by forested mountains. In the good late autumn weather it was beautiful and we enjoyed wandering the small streets finding little restaurants and stores, and looking at the interesting mix of old and very new architecture.
We didn't visit any of the popular museums and galleries as after almost 4 weeks in Japan we were "museumed out", but did stumble across the Nishinomon-Yoshinoya Sake Brewery which is well worth a visit, and had lunch at Unaginoyado Sumiyoshi - a well-regarded unagi restaurant.
There are also lots of scenic and nature locations to visit in the surrounding hills, but you need more time than we had to enjoy them.
Overall, Nagano was a bit of a surprise package and being just 1½ hours from Tokyo by Shinkansen I would recommend a visit as part of any Japan itinerary.

Handly location to use as a base for surrounding areas like Matsumoto and Obuse. Just be aware the train to Obuse is not on the JR or the IC/Suica/Pasmo and you'd need cash to buy the ticket.

Many different activities available in the area - cultural, historical, and natural. The Togakushi Shrine Pilgrimage and Kamikochi National Park were my favorites. Excellent souvenir shopping on the street in front of Zenkoji Temple. The city is very walkable. The train from Tokyo provides easy access. During hot summer months it is cooler in Nagano.
Great location in the immediate pedestrian-only area of Zenkoji temple. Very nice walking around that area and temple. I was able to attend a 7am service at the temple, which was great. The hotel is on the original site of the main temple building (1000 years ago...). The staff were very kind, helpful, and available. Breakfast and dinner were both very good and enjoyable. I enjoyed their public bath. The bus to and from the train station was easy and quick. Highly recommended.
Fantastic location and easy to get to from the Nagano station (5mins) check in process was super easy. The room was spacious for 2 people with 2 beds (I travelled with my son). The hotel was clean, staff friendly, helpful and happy. Communication was easy we speak English. Highly recommend for a few nights stay or just one as we did. Close to the mall, Zenkoji temple and easy to get to the Snow Monkey Park. 😁
The hotel is right opposite to the train station, and from my window, I can see long-distance buses waiting at bus stops to pick up travellers going to Habuka (ski resorts) and Kamikochi (mountain highland for trekking).
The room (at 8th floor) is generally quiet throughout the whole night.
You can have a spa bath at level 2.
Next to the hotel is a 7-11 that opens 24h.
The hotel is very well located in the centre of Nagano city, 3 minutes from the main station and close access to most of the location to visit. The staff is nice and polite, and the hotel itself is quite clean. Even if the room is a little small, it's practical, clean for an affordable price. The bed were quite comfortable.
Fantastic hotel close to JR Nagano station. Easy check-in experience with free welcome drink. Lockers are available to use free of charge for guests if you are checking out and then want to explore the city (or want to drop bags early). Beds comfortable and tea and coffee making facilities in room. Would highly recommend
>>Location is the best in Nagano City (*attach directly to the main station and Mi Do Ri)
>>Lobby is big and classic
>>Room is very spacious compared to other hotels I stayed throughout Japan so far.
>>Window view is excellent, as I can see the snows outside the window during my 3 nights winter stay. Highly recommend.
The location was excellent, almost directly next to the major station. Since traditional Nagano is located next to the station, everything was in walking distance.
The room was very spacious, and breakfast provided a nice selection of Japanese dishes.
The breakfast room provided a nice view over the city.
Best quality-value hotel I've stayed in my japan trip so far, it's right outside the train station, very modern and clean, we had a room with bathtub and with a very nice view and they have plenty of high quality amenities available at the lobby
The complimentary breakfast was a pleasant surprise for us. We liked it a lot!
The hotel is a few minutes walk from Nagano station. There are many restaurants to choose from around the area.
It’s a relief to know that staff can speak English.
just minutes walk from Nagano train station. Lots of food options nearby and shopping. Onsen was great and rooms we exceptional. Note: no tattoos allowed in this onsen. Bonus, the hotel water is alkalized! highly recommend.
The hotel is close to Nagano station, about 5 minutes walk. The room was spacious and comfortable, the staff very friendly, and the breakfast(Japanese style with some western dishes) simply amazing.
Very convenient with many places to eat nearby. The hotel is clean with easy access to transportation, whether its the train, bus or taxi. Hotel has direct access to train station.
Very close to the station
A lot of space compared to other places in Japan
Second time staying with Compass, if I come to Nagano again I will be picking this place again.
Hotel was more spacious compared to other hotels we have been to in Japan. Room was clean and neat. Closer to Nagano station with lots of shopping and restaurants nearby.
