Caminha, a fortified border town located at the mouth of the river Minho, where several battles were fought between Portugal and Spain, now has much more friendly relations with its neighbor , it is a nice place to stay a few days to discover the area, unfortunately the ferry that connects the two banks of the river, is out of service.

I have been taking holidays in Caminha for over 30 years so it is one of my favourite spots. The town is small and everything is in walking distance, packed with enough restaurant choices to keep you satisfied and very well fed. Around it there's plenty interesting things to see and places to visit, also more restaurants with more excellent food to enjoy. The proximity with Spain is also a bonus.

Great little town with a lots of culture and tradition. As a pilgrim, there were not so many places to stay, but I met some lovely people there. I loved walking along the river Minho, beautiful landscape, fascinating architecture. It's a quiet town that is located on the riverbank of Rio Minho and you can cross the river by ferry to Spain.

Caminha is a busy little town with all the usual shops and plenty of restaurants and bars The scenery over the river estuary to Spain is great. There are good transport links by train and bus and also a car ferry to Spain. Also easy access to sea and river beaches.

CAMINHA is a very attractive little town especially the old centre which has a lovely bustling square ! Many decent reasonably priced restaurants. There are lovely clean beaches & super views across the River Minho to Spain ! Ideally located for walking on the beautiful unspoilt Serra da Arga or along the coastline. Easy to nip across to Spain on the cheap ferry. Good train service to other interesting places.

The location is perfect and the views across the river to Spain and the sunsets are amazing. The breakfast had everything, it was delicious. The hotel is nicely designed, it feels spacious, not fussy. The games room and the areas to work or have a glass of wine are really nice places to be. And above all, the staff are super nice, friendly and helpful. Plus we have a little dog who was given her own bed and food bowl for the room, plus the staff liked her.

Querk, a little older but nice atmosphere, plenty of bathrooms/showers. The proprietor has spent a lot of time and effort to ensure everything for a pilgrim is catered for. From herbs and spices and tea and coffee for a fully equipped kitchen to private spaces and areas to congregate. Reminds me of the Hippy backpackers around Australia in the 1980's

Sensational location, nicely allocated bedrooms and spectacular views of the river mino. The house is light and spacious and the terrace is a fantastic spot for a barbecue and glad of wine at the end of a long day on the beach. Good restaurants nearby too and some great walking to be had. Thoroughly recommended and hopefully we will be back.
