de Pakhuys, hotel in Clanwilliam

De Pakhuys enjoys a location in Clanwilliam, 27 miles from Wupperthal Museum and 4.6 miles from Sevilla Rock Art Trail.

Location was beautiful and we liked the cottage. It was cold while there but normal for the time of year. It was unfortunately, too chilly to take advantage of the outsides seating and shower but this would have been lovely with different weather. The location was gorgeous. We did the San art trail and ate at Travellers Rest. We would highly recommend both. We were able to buy some supplies there rather than going back to Clanwilliam. We also took the untraced road to Nieuwoldtville, trip of three hours with return through Clanwilliamm (1.5 hours return). This is a gorgeous drive and stunning in flower season. The trip included time for a hike in the botanical garden in Niewwoldsville.

The town was quite shabby and needed a proper clean up.

The town was quite shabby and needed a proper clean up. The stores were serviceable and had the right merchandise for quick purchases. Garages appeared to be too close together. The roads to and from the town were wonderful and setting splendid. It would be a beautiful sight if the town could present clean buildings with fresh paint.

A great location for a overnight travel stop when travelling to or from Cape Town, Namibia or Cederberg. The town has a long history, with many well preserved buildings from the 1800's. The conveniently located Bella Louise restaurant has a most delicious menu, lots of mouth-water dishes.

It is a wonderful little platteland town with stunning surroundings. The views of the Cedarberg Mountains is uplifting to one's spirit. Warm, hospitable people. We dined at Bella Louise Restaurant and the setting was just perfect, all protocols duly followed, good food and friendly, helpful staff. Clanwilliam is an easy place to get around and one would really have to go to great length to lose one's way.

    Clanwilliam is looking rather unkempt.

Clanwilliam is looking rather unkempt. Many properties look as if they need a good dose of TLC. There is not too much to see or do in Clanwilliam. Unfortunately for us, we had already been through Pakhuis Pass to TRavellers Rest and then via Biedouw Valley to Wupppertal to see where they make Veldskoene, but unfortunately, it was closed due to COVID infections. The wild flowers were in proliferation in the veld wherever we looked. It was well worth the trip on the gravel road. The unusal rock formations in Pakhuis Pass make the trip worth while. We made frequent stops to take photographs and simply gaxe at the splendour of the formations. We had a most enjoyable evening at a restaurant - Michael's on Park. It is well worth going there if ever in Clanwilliam. Food was great, atmosphere was great and the venue is steeped in history.

Clanwilliam is the citrus capital of South Africa and a sweet little town with the famous big dam for water sports and camping and bass fishing, but its the gateway to the Cederberg mountain range and hiking , bouldering and for that its so amazing that very little can beat the nature experience, vast open spaces and mountain ranges, the rugged rocks and rock paintings.

The drive to Clanwilliam, took me through one of the most picturesque valleys I have ever travelled through, which culminated in a stop at the most gorgeous little oasis's that I have had the pleasure of staying in. From the reception by Magriet, the hot farm bread with butter and Jam, the ice cold mangoes freshly picked off the tree and last but not least, the wonderful gesture from Karen, an ice cold bottle of champagne for my wife's birthday. What an awesome, awesome venue, well appointed, homely, comfortable and quiet

It is a great little hotel for the traveler or family, with a decent size swimming pool and big enough, clean rooms. The only thing that was a concern is that the dining room was not available for dinner. BUT...... the GM made a plan to get his chef back on site and prepare a tremendous meal for the 4 of us. Despite the full hotel, the GM was on-hand to make sure his guests was taken care of. Thank you so much for that true South African "n boer maak n plan" attitude at the hotel.

Nelda was welcoming, friendly and very helpful. She advised us on things to do in Clanwilliam and went out of her way to get information on best spots to view the wild flowers. The property met all my expectations and the thoughtfulness of providing fruit, milk, cereals, yoghurt, tea, coffee, biscuits for our arrival made it extra special. Many thanks Nelda for making our stay unforgettable. We will definitely be back. :-)

AC unit to heat the room & electric blanket on bed - it was cold at night in Clanwilliam. Good quality king-size bed with good linen on it. Tasty breakfast, served at the table, made to order. Complimentary sherry - Clanwilliam was cold while we were there and the sherry was most welcome. Good wi-fi (although it didn't work during loadshedding). Pretty & interesting garden. Parking inside the property.

The stay was amazing and very comfortable. Would definitely stay again. I must add that I missed my two beautiful fur babies and got such a fright as there were two little kitties that kept us company that looked exactly like my two at home. In Clanwilliam there names were Clanwilliam Chloe and Spencer and at home, they are now known as Cape Town Chloe and Spencer.

The house is located in a secure estate along the Clanwilliam dam, it’s really peaceful and lovely to take an afternoon stroll and watch the sunset over the mountain. The gas heater was a lifesaver and made things warm and cozy. There are some lights and plugs available (limited) during loadshedding, so everything is not completely dark and offline.
