There really is a Manuel and he's mucho hombre. We enjoyed meeting him and our stay at his casa which had everything we needed. We had no car and the walk to downtown Santa Maria was 20-40 minutes depending on our route.

The place is beautiful and the staff is very kind. While the on-site restaurant was a bit pricey, the food was amazing. The room is cozy and the bed is comfortable. We loved the location in the highlands of Costa Rica, right off the Interamericana near the Tapanti and Quetzales national parks. The cool mountain air is a refreshing change from the beach, and the cabina had a full kitchen and everything we needed for a short stay.

Fantastic hosts! Norem, Esteban and Valeria made us feel at home right away and went out of their way to accommodate us. Breakfast and dinner (with the hummingbirds around) were delicious, prepared to the point and with several dishes to choose from. The cabins are all new, very well designed and furnished, the bathroom with steady and immediate hot and cold water supply. A garden with a small trail are in the making and will make spending time in the crisp and clean mountain air even more worthwhile. We can highly recommend Curuba Lodge which became our favorite place in Costa Rica! Tip: Esteban can connect you with a few guides to see the rare and iconic Quetzal birds.
