During my recent visit to Orkney, I had the pleasure of staying at the Kirkwall Hotel. This historic property exceeded expectations on all fronts.
Exceptional Staff: The staff at the Kirkwall Hotel were incredibly professional and supportive. Their attentiveness and willingness to go the extra mile made my stay truly memorable. From assisting with taxi arrangements to facilitating an extended stay due to a missed flight, their genuine hospitality was exceptional.
Unmatched Location: The hotel's location is unbeatable. Situated in the heart of Kirkwall, it provides convenient access to a variety of amenities. Lidl, Tesco, restaurants, souvenir shops, and the magnificent Magnus Cathedral are all within easy walking distance.
Historic Charm: The Kirkwall Hotel itself is a treasure trove of history. The corridors are adorned with captivating historic pictures, offering a glimpse into the past. A particularly delightful surprise was the beautifully preserved guest register dating back to 1948, adding a unique touch to the ambiance.
Peaceful and Inviting: My room was impeccably clean and offered a serene atmosphere, free from any disruptive noise. The view of the harbor was an added bonus, providing a picturesque backdrop to my stay.
Highly Recommended: The Kirkwall Hotel offers an exceptional combination of comfort, history, and exceptional service. Whether you're a business traveler or a leisure guest, this hotel caters to a truly enjoyable stay. I would highly recommend the Kirkwall Hotel to anyone visiting Orkney. In fact, I look forward to returning myself in the future.

Kirkwall caters well for its visitors with an array of quality shops selling a range of local products. The coffee shops are close by and coffee is tasty. There a lot of things to see as you wander through the town. The Cathedral dominates the town and is full of history alongside the bishops and earls house.
However there is so much more to explore outwith Kirkwall if you are interested in Neolithic structures, naval warfare history or the wonderful sights of nature.

A place combining plenty of history of different periods (we went on a fantastic trike trip (https://orkneytriketours.co.uk/) - great experience, visiting the Italian Chapel, standing stones and Scara Brae. The town itself has a 12-century cathedral, historical ruins, and museums, including the wireless communications museum, which was created and is being run by enthusiasts. There are also different daily art groups at Gallery 25 (https://www.facebook.com/Number25Kirkwall/?locale=en_GB) which we enjoyed joining. And the local English is very melodic - it is a pleasure listening to it! I can't say we discovered the fantastic seafood, but there is a lovely shop, The Brig Larder (https://www.jollysoforkney.co.uk/pages/the-brig-larder, one can also order local delicacies to be delivered) - again with lovely staff and a good selection of locally sourced dairy, cheese, seafood and preserves.

Kirkwall is a beautiful little city.
Kirkwall is a beautiful little city. I came for the incredible Neolithic history and to search for family ties in the area. There are many jewelry shops as well as artists studios and tweed or wool shops. The museum is also fantastic. It’s a fibre artist’s dream.
Excellent location - only a few minute's walk into Kirkwall. Hosts were absolutely wonderful, welcoming, and hospitable -nothing was too much trouble. Comfort of bedroom was superb with lots of little extra touches that would put some expensive chain hotels to shame. Quality and quantity of breakfast was of excellent quality with many food choices and always fresh and well presented. Hope we will have the opportunity to stay again as we fell in love with Orkney!
Beautifully decorated, pleasant Victorian house, looking down on the Highland Park Distillery down the hill, with countryside on 2 sides. Only 5 mins drive from Kirkwall. Comfortable twin room. Delicious full breakfast with choices. Host made friendly suggestion to try chilli jam on the haggis - lovely. Small, privately run hotel with a balance of traditional & modern styles. I would stay here again.

The apartment is within easy walking distance of everything you need in Kirkwall, from the supermarkets to the Earl's Palace to the restaurants and the ferry to the northern isles. The kitchen is very well equipped and it's a good hob, and tea, coffee, and milk is provided. Communication with David was excellent beforehand, too.
Great location in Kirkwall. Plenty of options for meals within walking distance. Grocery store nearby. Central for driving to all the tourist sites, with parking outside apartment.
The apartment is cosy to come home to and well fitted out.. The owner was very helpful when we needed assistance, with good communication.
We love the facilities and everything are well organized. The location is not that fae from Kirkwall’s center. We can reach almost everywhere by walking distance. The bus stop is even nearby with supermarkets.
I’d highly recommend for a group of friends, regardless of gender. I traveled with a group of female.
Very comfortable and spacious apartments. Well equipped kitchenettes. Decent wifi speed for the island. Free parking with a generous policy of allowing cars to remain parked after checkout for later departures when parking is available. Short walk downtown. Good restaurant and bar.
The room was bright and clean. The location was excellent - about a 6 minute walk to St Magnus Cathedral and the high street. The host was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was made to order and delicious. I would recommend Shorelands B&B to anyone planning to visit Kirkwall.
The house was lovely and had everything we needed. A home away from home. Great location, very central and just what we needed for visiting family. Loved the little touches like the blankets, hairdryer, menus in the kitchen etc, and having a washing machine to use was amazing.
After we arrived from Aberdeen on the ferry, arriving in Kirkwall at 11pm, the hotel was right on the harbour, so easy to find, with parking outside. The facilities were comfortable, clean and we slept well. Our one night stay was very good value hit money.
The Kirkwall hotel has been renovated to a lovely standard. Very tastefully done. The staff were all really helpful, friendly and professional.
Breakfast was really good, served in the dining room and their Covid system of pre ordering worked really well.
Donald was very helpful and even picked us up from the airport.
The property is in the centre of Kirkwall but not noisy.
Having a parking pass and a space right outside the house was a bonus.
Nice surprise to get the breakfast hamper.
Everything. The living & bedroom was comfortable and clean with plenty of supplies. Located within a 10/15 minute walk in to central Kirkwall and no more than half hour drive to reach either the east or west coasts of the mainland.
The hotel is beautiful with fantastic renovations in the last few years. Location is great in the middle of downtown and walking distance to everything in Kirkwall. Restaurant had fantastic food
Conveniently located in the heart of Kirkwall, free car park at the back of the hotel, cosy rooms and the most comfortable giant bed, the staff were lovely
