If you want to have a good time and SEE ORANGUTANS this is the place, the team (we had two guides) knows the place like the palm of their hand, they split and search, thus, 2x chance to see orangs!! I consider this an unbeatable technique. While on our tour, we met some people that told us they saw 2 orangs in 2 days, a couple that saw 1 in their whole tour, we saw 8 orangs in just 6 hours or so!! first we saw a teen orang that started following us from the tree tops, then we crossed paths with a mama orang and her baby orang, then a single male adult, then a couple male-female, one more young adult and, THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME IN A LONG TIME, we were tubing back down the river to the guest house and we saw this HUGE orang, it looked almost 2m and like +200lbs Breakfast was good, super good KopiSusu, omelette, banana pancakes, everything was delicious!

Sam is an attentive and friendly owner and his staff are excellent! Pipie his main guy was always there to chat and help plus he played Rummikub with us at night! The restaurant was very good with a great selection of food with amazing value! They booked out car from Medan and gave a motorbike ride to the hotel which added to our experience! We also booked a jungle trek with Andre and Rama as our guides… they were patient and fun to hang with and the provided a wonderful lunch plus we saw six Orangutans with a mom and baby within 5ft! A definite recommend to our friends !

From the moment we arrived (at 10.30pm might I add, when the staff picked us up from the car park), we were warmly welcomed and looked after. Everyone was so kind. They all knew our names and provided exceptional service. The view from the restaurant is incredible and probably the best in Bukit Lawang being on the corner of the street with a path to the river to swim. You can sit there for hours taking in the view and ordering delicious food. The room was lovely and spacious. Very clean. I was worried about creepy crawlies but only saw butterflies. Now for the trek. The staff arranged our 2N3D trek with Ebo and Anen and the chef (whose name we have forgotten but the food was some of the best we have ever had). This was one of the best experiences we have ever had. Both guides were knowledgeable, friendly, caring and gave us the most memorable time. Ebo’s English is fantastic. He was so kind to us and taught us so much in the jungle. Anen prepared us fresh fruit on every trek break. Both had a great sense of humour and helped us see 5 orangutang and other wildlife. It was so relaxing and serene. We couldn’t recommend them more. We were so sad when it was over and are missing it already.

Located in Bukit Lawang, Rambai Tree Jungle Lodges features a garden, terrace, massage services, and free WiFi throughout the property. Thea is the nicest host - very warm and welcoming. The lodge it self is very nice and lot of value for money. Also, the food is really good!

Hotel Barbara has a garden, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Tuk Tuk. The accommodation offers a 24-hour front desk, airport transfers, room service and free WiFi throughout the property. The hosts and the staff were super friendly and very helpful to make our short stay in Lake Toba fulfilling. They helped arrange scooter rentals and lended me a large bicycle since the rental bicycles in town are all medium sized. And they provided detailed information on where to go on the island. The food was also great. Breakfast was big and tasty. And dinner seemed like it was home cooked. We mostly ate vegetarian except for grilled fish once which was also excellent.
