Originally built in 1889, the heritage-listed Okoroire Hot Springs Hotel features an onsite hot spring bath, a 9-hole golf course and a tennis court. What a fantastic surprise this stay ended up being. We booked it during our travels for a quick place to stop at after visiting Hobbiton and on our way to Auckland without expecting much. However, the old world charm, the excellently maintained hot springs, and the delicious dinner were all great surprises.

Bridgehaven Guesthouse offers accommodations in Okoroire, 31 miles from Mystery Creek Events Centre. There's a picnic area and guests can use free Wifi and free private parking. This was a great little spot, only 15 mins drive from Hobbiton and a lovely quiet country area. Julie we didn't meet you, but thanks for the lovely touches, a couple of beers and ciders, and the home made bread and condiments were just beautiful! The unit was so spacious, great shower, comfortable bed, and that cow pic on the wall was perfect! Love this place! Great country pub, the hot springs hotel, is 6km away and was also a winner, highly recommended.

Attention to detail was awesome and Carmen and her husband thought of everything to make this one of the best places I've stayed. Amazing location close to Hobbiton and fantastic views!

The host went the extra mile to make the stay brilliant. Little surprise on arrival that they certainly don't need to provide.

Lake Karapiro Lodge offers views of the surrounding countryside and lake. Gourmet breakfast is included. Facilities include free WiFi, an outdoor swimming pool, hot tub and sauna. The views, the location, the breakfast, the staff - Will definitely return!

Maple Retreat by Blue Spring offers accommodations in Putaruru, 29 miles from Zorb Rotorua. The guest house, set in a building dating from 2023, offers free Wifi and free private parking. Great room in a nice quiet street. Was easy to find, had what we needed and nicely laid out. Given we had several friends staying at different motels in Putaruru and hearing their feedback I think we hit the jackpot. The communication was really friendly and accommodating. Was a shame we didn't get time to sit outside with a cuppa as I think it would've been a really nice tranquil place to enjoy.
